I'll repeat a previous comment since it's exactly what I thought... but I gave an extra star for its sheer value!"This is an excellent basic guide for correcting and preventing rust on metal-hulled vessels. It is marred only by the lack of a good editor for the spelling and syntax errors. It would also have been improved by a list of materials rather than having read the entire book to find it peace meal."

I have worked aboard metal ships for over ten years now. I have chipped and painted on Coast Guard cutters and iron barques, harbor tugs and purse seigners, and now my own steel cruiser.
Scott Fratcher's book not only confirms the more reliable methods i have learned over the years it provides a clear guide to the important aspects of metal boat maintenance. If a can of bottom paint is $150 there is no reason you shouldnt spend a few bucks on this book!
I'm completely restoring a steel sailboat and this book gave me a lot of good practical information on paints and how to patch the hull.
